GULF SHORES, Ala. (March 17, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team were led by two freshman and a redshirt sophomore on the second day of the Bama Beach Bash at Gulf Shores Golf Club, as the Lions sit sixth on the leaderboard after two rounds.
Despite falling out of a tie for fourth, UNA remains within nine strokes of second place heading into the final round. Last week, UNA had the best final round at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in Glencoe, Ala.
No. 36 ranked Iowa State leads the field at 18-over, followed by UNC Asheville 20 strokes back at 38-over. Host school UAB and Georgia State both sit third at 40-over, followed by Southern Miss (+45), UNA (+47), East Texas A&M (+51), EKU (+54), West Georgia (+55) and UAlbany (+77). UNA leads both its ASUN rivals — EKU and UWG.
All three underclassmen in the lineup improved their spot on the leaderboard, led by redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber at 11-over-par 155. True freshman Sirichaya Chanpen made the biggest jump up the leaderboard, moving nine spots into a tie for 33rd at 15-over-par 159. She is tied with senior Jahnavi Prakhya.
Two Lions are tied for 25th at 13-over-par 157. Freshman Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir carded a 77 to move up seven spots. Senior Hannah Dees carded a 78 and a 79 the first two rounds.
UNA will be in the last groups to tee off tomorrow along with Iowa State, UAB and Southern Miss. Prakhya will go first at 11:40 a.m. followed by Chanpen, Dees, Steinarsdottir and Klauber.
