HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 3, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team finished its lowest round since Fall 2023 and was just five strokes away from a school record as the Lions sit second place at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate after one day at Hampton Cove.
The Lions trail Troy by just three strokes for the lead at 18-over-par 548. UNA had the best first round of any team with a seven-over-par 295.
Currently, the Lions have an 11-over-par 253 score in the second round. Due to darkness, second round play was suspended at 5:35 p.m. and will resume tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. The teams will finish round three late Tuesday morning following round two.
Two Lions are in the top six, including senior Hannah Dees with a one-over-par 134. Dees led the entire field after round one with a -2 score with three birdies on Holes 3, 7 and 18. She only had one first round bogey.
True freshman Sirichaya Chanpen sits sixth on the leaderboard at three-over, including six birdies over the first two rounds. She birdied the ninth hole in both rounds. Senior Jahnavi Prakhya and freshman Olivia Whitte are both tied for 17th at seven-over, while freshman Elsa Steinarsdottir rounds out the Lions in 44th in her first start.
The top three teams are all from Alabama, led by Troy, UNA and Samford. Samford is two strokes back of the Lions with a 20-over-par 550. The rest of the order goes Belmont, UNC Asheville, West Georgia, Tennessee Tech, Presbyterian, Oakland, Southern Illinois, Bellarmine and Eastern Illinois.
As a team, UNA has 25 birdies over the first round and midway through the second round.
The Lions tee back off at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
