OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. (April 13, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team opened play at the 2025 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Sunday at RTJ Hampton Cove in Huntsville, sitting seventh place after one round with a 16-over-par 304.

UNA opened the first round with 16 birdies — the second-most of any team in the field.

Two Lions opened play with a 75 on the scorecard, as freshman Sirichaya Chanpen and redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber are tied for 13th place. The duo combined for 10 birdies with five apiece, including four in a row from Klauber to open the back nine. After the 13th hole, Klauber was one-under and was hovering near the top of the leaderboard.

Senior Hannah Dees was one stroke back at four-over-par 76, including a pair of birdies on Hole 2 and Hole 14. Fellow senior Jahnavi Prakhya contributed to the score with a six-over 78, while freshman Elsa Maren Steinarsdottir rounded out the lineup at eight-over.

Much like other tournaments this season, the Lions were in heated competition with Jacksonville. Last week, UNA bested Jacksonville by one stroke at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga. Today, UNA leads the Dolphins by one stroke.

The Lions are also well ahead of Central Arkansas, Bellarmine, Queens and West Georgia after the first round.

Stetson led the opening 18 with a one-over 289, followed by Lipscomb just three strokes back. Eastern Kentucky, FGCU, Austin Peay and North Florida round out the top half of the field. North Alabama is just two strokes back of the Ospreys.

Round two tees off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. Steinarsdottir will be the first to play for North Alabama with an 8:15 tee time. Klauber will be the final Lion to tee off at 8:51 a.m. UNA's pairings include Jacksonville and Central Arkansas.
