Volleyball to open ASUN play vs. Austin Peay and Lipscomb

Lions return to CB&S Bank Arena for weekend conference bouts

FLORENCE, Ala. (September 25, 2025) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team opens Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend with home matches against Austin Peay and Lipscomb at CB&S Bank Arena.

North Alabama faces Austin Peay on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. The Lions end the weekend against Lipscomb on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.

Both matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+, and live stats will be provided through StatBroadcast. Full results and a recap will be posted on RoarLions.com following the action, but fans can also follow along in real time on the UNA Volleyball social media pages.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the match, as parking is limited due to ongoing construction. As such, the lot near the Hal Self Athletic Annex will be unavailable. Violators will be towed if parked in the construction zone.

Fans are encouraged to park in Lot O below the arena, the Science Building lot or in the parking deck across from the arena. Limited handicap parking will be available in front of the CB&S Bank Arena ticket office.

NOTES


SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama is 6-7 on the year, playing in the Cougar Challenge from Sept. 19-20 in Houston, Texas. The Lions claimed a three-set sweep over McNeese and beat the Cowgirls in their first-ever meeting. UNA additionally faced Houston and Liberty in competitive bouts. The Lions finished with a season-high in blocks against Liberty (13 total) with their second-highest kill (61) and dig (65) performance on the season.

TWO FOR FOUR
: Sophomore Kinslee McGowan was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week on Sept. 22. The honor marked her second career weekly award and the second in three weeks. McGowan earned her first award on Sept. 8, marking the first in UNA Volleyball's Division I era.

"SETTING" THE TONE
: McGowan has been the point guard for the North Alabama Volleyball offense. She's second in the ASUN in assists per set (9.71) and leads with 466 assists as of Sept. 24. The sophomore is also tied for fourth in the ASUN in total aces (18) and tied for sixth in aces per set (0.38).

KENDALL ON THE ATTACK!
: Junior Kendall Barnes has been UNA's leader on the attack, leading the team with 168 kills. She ranks second in the ASUN in total kills and third in kills per set (3.50). Barnes has 190 points on the season to rank third in the conference for points per set (3.96).

ACING THE COMPETITION
: Service ace extraordinaire Olivia Fenoff has provided added offense, totaling 23 on the season. Her ace total is tied for first in the ASUN and her 0.49 ace per set average is third.

KEATING ON THE BLOCK
: Sophomore Amelia Keating is tied for fifth in the ASUN in blocks per set with 1.04. Keating was a wall on the defense last time out, setting a new career with eight blocks against Liberty on Sept. 20.

RELIABLE RICKETTS
: Sophomore Reese Ricketts is coming into form in her second season. She's second on the team with 128 kills and ranks ninth in the ASUN with 2.78 kills per set. Ricketts has contributed defensively with 105 digs (fourth on the team) and 13 blocks.

SURGING SARGENT
: Junior Nicole Sargent has been finding her mark on the attack, leading her team with a .337 hitting percentage. Her percentages rank her eighth in the conference, totaling 70 kills on the season. Sargent also leads the team alongside freshman Jenna Kolosta with 27 blocks.

DIGGIN' DEEP
: Junior Ava Martindale is making the most in her first season as the starting libero for North Alabama. She leads the team with 157 total digs and a 3.27 digs per set average.

AMONG THE RANKS
: UNA is ranked nationally in several individual statistics. Kinslee McGowan is 10th in the NCAA in total assists while 47th in assists per set. Olivia Fenoff is 24th nationally in total service aces and 60th in aces per set. Kendall Barnes is 57th in total kills while 60th in points.

MILESTONE LIONS:
North Alabama has seen four career milestones achieved at the season's halfway point. Fenoff tallied her 50th career service ace against Grambling State on Aug. 30. McGowan registered her 500th career assist against Alabama A&M on Sept. 2. Head Coach Tristan Johnson won his 50th career match on Sept. 12 in a three-set home sweep over Western Carolina. Ricketts recently surpassed 500 career kills against McNeese on Sept. 19.

IMPACT NEWCOMERS: The new faces for UNA Volleyball have been impactful early on the season. Martindale set a career high in digs against Southeast Missouri, with Barnes tallying a career-high 21 kills against Alabama A&M. Jenna Kolosta has also had a solid start at middle blocker with a season stat line of 60 kills, 27 blocks and 16 digs. Kolosta earned her first ASUN Freshman of the Week honor on Sept. 8. Junior Jessi Ritchhart has also contributed with a Division I career-high 12 digs against SEMO.

SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY:
 The Governors enter the matchup with a 2-10 record. Last time out, Austin Peay defeated Tennessee State on Sept. 23 with a three-set road sweep. Austin Peay is tops in the conference in service aces with 92 total and 1.96 per set. Austin Peay is led offensively by Taly Cloyd with 121.5 points and 106 kills. The head coach for the Governors is Evan Amstutz.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE GOVERNORS:
Friday's meeting marks the 12th all-time in the series. North Alabama leads 8-3 and has won four of the last five matches. The last meeting saw the Lions sweep the Governors in CB&S Bank Arena on Nov. 8, 2024.

SCOUTING LIPSCOMB:
 The Bisons head to Florence at 4-6 on the season. Lipscomb entered the season as preseason favorites in the ASUN Preseason Volleyball Poll. The Bisons have won three of their last five matches but dropped a four-set bout versus Belmont last time out on Sept. 19. The Bisons are third in the ASUN in team assists with 415 and a 12.21 per-set average. Courtney Jones leads Lipscomb with 141 points and 127 kills. The Bisons' head coach is Brandon Rosenthal.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE BISONS:
The Lions look for their second all-time win over Bisons in the 18th all-time meeting. The last UNA win came on Feb. 23, 2021, defeating Lipscomb in four sets in CB&S Bank Arena.
