Former NFL wide receiver KJ Maye joined the UNA coaching staff as the wide receivers coach in March 2025.
Maye played at Murphy High School in the Mobile area, went on to a successful collegiate career at Minnesota, then played four seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots until 2018. Since 2020, he has served as a high school offensive coordinator in the Mobile County Public School System.
His most recent coaching position was at Vigor High School, which is Coach Brent Dearmon's alma mater. Maye was the OC in 2023 and 2024, leading the Wolves to a regional championship and an appearance in the AHSAA Class 5A State Semifinal Round in 2024. Vigor went 12-2 overall and 7-0 in region games in 2024, as Maye's offense averaged 35.6 points per game.
As a college player for Coach Jerry Kill, Maye was a star receiver for Minnesota from 2012-15. He caught 107 passes for 1,190 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 11.1 yards per reception, including 18.6 yards per catch in 2014. His senior year saw him catch 73 passes for 773 yards and five scores. This led to him becoming a NFL prospect, where he went undrafted but signed with the New York Giants.
After signing with the Titans and Patriots, Maye went on to be selected by the Tampa Bay Vipers in the inaugural XFL Draft in 2019.
Maye completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 2016. His major was Sociology.Â
