Luke Roth joined the football staff at North Alabama as special teams coordinator in December of 2022. He enters his third season in 2025.
Roth reconnected with UNA Head Coach Brent Dearmon after working with him at both Bethel and Kansas.
"Coach Roth and I go way back," said Dearmon. "He was my punter as a college player at Bethel. When I went back as the head coach in 2018, Luke was my special teams coordinator. Luke is a great communicator and very well organized. We are lucky to have him."
Since arriving at UNA, the Lions have won two United Athletic Conference Specialist of the Week awards from kicker Scott Payne and return specialist Justin Luke. Roth also coached Adam Watford, who was a Freshman All-American punter by both FCS Football Central and Phil Steele. Watford also made the All-UAC Second Team.
Luke Roth joined the Kansas football staff in early July prior to the 2020 season as a senior special teams analyst. Roth assisted with all facets of special teams for the Jayhawks, including preparing scouting reports, game plans, breaking down film and self-scouting. Roth filled in as the Jayhawks Special Teams Coordinator against West Virginia during the 2020 season and Kansas had a kickoff return for a touchdown to show for it. It was the first kickoff return for a score for the Jayhawks since 2016.
Roth arrived at Kansas from Western Kentucky, where he served in a special teams quality control position. In that role, he collaborated with the special teams coordinator on the team’s weekly game plan. Roth also helped organize the scout team and helped with sideline organization. Roth helped coach two-time Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week Cory Munson, who also kicked the 53-yard game winning field goal in the First Responders Bowl vs Western Michigan in 2019. He also helped develop first-team all-conference punter John Haggerty, who posted a 46.2-yard average on the season, ranking him top five in the nation in punting average.
Roth spent one season with Western Kentucky. Prior to his time there, Roth spent seven seasons at Bethel University (Tenn.) as the program’s Assistant HC/Special Teams Coordinato. He coached multiple positions over the seven seasons (RB’s / OLB’s / TE’s / WR’s). He led all six special teams units for Bethel and prepared game planning, play calls and film breakdown for the unit. During his time at Bethel, he coached three AFCA first-team all-conference specialists (Stoney Burns, Quincy Walden and J’Kobi Reddick). He also coached five first-team all-conference specialists and three second-team all-conference specialists.
He also handled equipment, social media and day to day operations duties for Bethel during his time there.
During his coaching career, his special teams units have combined for 32 special teams touchdowns and have produced eight all-conference players and three All-American honorees.
Roth graduated from Bethel in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He received a Masters of Education from Bethel in 2013.
Luke and his wife Kimberlee were married in 2017 and have a daughter, Ella.
