With 10 years of previous coaching experience, Malden, Mo., native Trey Porter joined the University of North Alabama football staff as running backs coach in January of 2022.

Porter served as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State University in 2021, working with defensive backs. He was previously an assistant coach at Jackson High School in Jackson, Ga., in 2020, head football coach and athletic director at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Mo. from 2017-20, offensive coordinator at Vashon High School in St. Louis from 2016-17, defensive coordinator at Hayti High School in Hayti, Mo., from 2014-16 and defensive coordinator at East Prairie High School in East Prairie, Mo., from 2012-14.

Porter turned the Roosevelt program around. After going 1-9 in his first season, the team would post a combined 19-5 over the next two years, winning a district championship. In 2018, his cornerback led the nation in interceptions with 16. Porter called one of the best offenses in the state from 2018-2019 as the Roosevelt Roughriders had over 4,000 yards of total offense both years, and averaged just under 40 points per game.

Porter played collegiately as a running back at Southeast Missouri State University, where he was also a member of SEMO's 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Championship track and field team.

A 2011 SEMO graduate with a B.S. degree in general studies and special education, Porter earned a Master's of Sports Administration from Arkansas State University in 2018 and added a Master's in Secondary Education Administration from Southeast Missouri State in 2020.
