Tyler Rice is in his second year as pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Alabama. He also previously served as recruiting coordinator.
Rice shared play-calling duties during UNA's 2020 season with Zach Lisko, who serves as run game coordinator.
Rice spent three seasons (2017-19) as an assistant coach at UT Martin where he was the Pacers' wide receivers coach and previously served as the offensive quality control coach.
The UTM passing game went to another level in 2019 as the Skyhawks averaged 222.2 receiving yards per game and two receivers (Terry Williams and Colton Dowell) earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors. Williams had 58 receptions for 581 yards and three touchdowns to finish ranked in the top-10 in program history in career receptions. Dowell recorded 38 receptions for 765 yards and four touchdowns. As a team, the Skyhawks ranked second in the OVC in pass efficiency (144.7) and third in pass offense (246.1).
During the 2018 season, the Skyhawk receivers had 263 receptions totaling 2,917 yards and 21 touchdowns. Highlighting the list was Willaims, the OVC All-Newcomer, who tallied 67 receptions for 736 yards and three touchdowns on the season. His 67 receptions ranked third in the OVC while ranking 19th nationally.
Before UT Martin, Rice served as an assistant coach at Wayne County High School where he was a prolific quarterback during his playing days. With Rice coaching the Wildcats, the team posted a 13-2 overall record before falling to eventual state champion Dresden.
Prior to his time in the prep ranks, Rice spent a season as an offensive student assistant at Murray State in 2015. While a member of the Racers, Rice assisted an offense which averaged 466.1 yards of total offense behind explosive All-American quarterback K.D. Humphries. Humphries led the nation in completions per game (30.0), passing yards (3,778) and passing yards per game (343.5).
Rice played two seasons at UT Martin, serving as the primary backup for record-setting quarterback Derek Carr for two seasons. Rice played in four games for the Skyhawks before transferring to Morehead State. He played in four games for the Eagles, completing 17 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Rice graduated from Murray State in 2016 with a degree in health and physical non-certification.
At Wayne County, Rice was a quarterback from 2007-10 and won the 2010 Class 1A Mr. Football Back Award.
