Josh Penny serves as Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at UNA and has been a member of the Lions' sports medicine staff since 2003.

Penny, a 1999 graduate of the University of West Alabama, served as a graduate assistant at UNA from 1999-2002, earning a Masters of Education with specialization in Physical Education and Health.

He then went to work for Health South briefly before returning to UNA in May of 2003 to become the school's head athletic trainer.

Penny, who is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association, worked as an athletic trainer in Health South's High School Outreach Program in 2002-03. He also served as an assistant trainer at the Kelly Tires Blue-Gray Game All-Star Football Classic from 1999-2001.

In 2020-21 he directed the UNA athletic department's successful efforts in battling the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He and his wife Colleen have two sons, Kyle and Kirk.
