Austin Burnette enters his second season as an assistant coach at University of North Alabama in 2024-25.
Burnette joined the Lions after serving as the Director of Player Development/Video Coordinator at Florida International University during the 2022-23 season. He organized and oversaw player personnel schedules, assisted with travel logistics, supervision of graduate assistants/student managers, provided academic support, coordinated with compliance, led scouting reports and film edits/exchanges during his time at FIU.
Before FIU, Burnette was an assistant coach of a premier prep school, Hargrave Military Academy. The Tigers finished with a record of 37-5, while finishing ranked No. 4 nationally amongst all prep schools. Burnette was no stranger to Hargrave as he returned after winning the 2016 National Championship as a player.
Prior to Hargrave Military Academy, Burnette served as a Graduate Assistant at Florida International University under head coach Jeremy Ballard. As a graduate assistant at FIU, he was responsible for game and scouting preparation, oversaw undergraduate managers and assisted in player development. Burnette’s previous coaching experience also includes a stint at University of North Georgia (19-20) as an assistant coach. His responsibilities consisted of player development, life skills, scouts, game planning and recruiting.
Burnette played collegiately at Campbell University. He finished his career as a 2019 Big South Regular Season Champion and 2018 Jamaica Classic Champion. He also participated in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), College Basketball Invitational (CBI), and College Insider Tournament (CIT) as a player.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Burnette earned his undergraduate degree from Campbell University and his master’s degree from Florida International University. He has a son, Ace Burnette.
