Biography
UNA INDOOR: She also played the 2018 season for the UNA indoor volleyball team...played in 22 matches, including 18 at libero...recorded a team-high 359 digs on the year...was also third on the team with 42 assists...reached double figures in digs 16 times, with seven matches with at least 20 digs and a career-high 30 digs on Oct. 23 against Lipscomb.
OTHER COLLEGE: She played two seasons at Western Nebraska Community College, helping the Cougars to consecutive regional championships in 2016 and 2017...was a libero and defensive specialist, finishing fifth on the school's all-time list with 1,159 career digs...recorded 678 digs in 2017 with a 3.92 per-set average...added 25 service aces...earned back-to-back all-region honors and was an all-tournament selection in 2017...was named the Region IX South Volleyball Libero in 2017 and Libero of the Year at the regional tournament.
HIGH SCHOOL: She played setter, outside hitter and libero for coaches Carlos Robles and Efrain Ortiz at Manuelo Toro Morice…was named team MVP in 2014, 2015 and 2016…also played basketball and softball for the Toros.
PERSONAL: Her full name is Genesis Benítez Fontánez. She is the daughter of Victor and Marisol Fontánez. She was born on November 4, 1998 and has two sisters. She is majoring in interior design at UNA.
