CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The University of North Alabama gave up six runs in the first two innings and never recovered as the Lions dropped an 8-1 decision Sunday at Lee in the Gulf South Conference series finale with the Flames.
UNA is now 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the GSC. Lee is 11-12 and 4-8.
UNA starter
Riley Sanderson (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing seven runs on nine hits over the first five innings. He walked three and struckout five. Â
Down 7-0, the Lions scored their lone run in the fifth inning after loading the bases with no outs.
Davis Elliott and
Heath Wood both singled and
Peyton Sockwell walked to load the bases.
Conner Kiser grounded out but drove in Elliott. After a fly out and a walk to
Kevin Hall, Lee pitcher Trenton Hill struckout
Kyle Hubbuch to end the threat. The Lions would leave nine base runners on the day.
Lee added a single run in the bottom of the seventh off UNA reliever
Blake Talley to make the final count 8-1. Talley pitched three innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits.
UNA was out-hit 11 to eight and the Lions made three errors in the field.
The Lions host Montevallo on Wednesday, March 16 at 5 p.m. at Mike Lane Field.
