FLORENCE, Ala. – Dalton Moats struckout 12 batters and threw a nine-inning complete-game to lead Delta State to a 6-2 win in the series finale with North Alabama at Mike Lane Field.
With the win, the Statesmen completed a three-game sweep of the weekend Gulf South Conference series. UNA drops to 15-13 overall and 8-10 in the GSC. Delta State is 20-9 and 13-5.
Delta State scored a run in the second inning and added two more in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. The Statesmen then scored three runs in the seventh to extend it to 6-0.
North Alabama scored its two runs in the bottom of the ninth as
Dylan Calhoun and
Kyle Crabtree both singled and two runs scored when
Kevin Hall reached on a throwing error.
UNA starter
Todd Gibson (2-4) took the loss for UNA, allowing six runs on seven hits over six and a third innings.
Dylan Stewart pitched two and two-thirds innings. He allowed two hits and struckout two.
Moats pitched nine innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts.
North Alabama plays at Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday (March 29).
