FLORENCE, Ala. – Down 9-3 in the eighth inning, the University of North Alabama scored three runs in its final two at bats but came up short in a 9-6 decision to Union at Mike Lane Field.
The loss drops the Lions to 20-20 overall and 12-15 in the Gulf South Conference. Union is now 18-21 and 10-16.
Union got on the board with two runs in the first inning but UNA answered with two in the bottom of the frame.
Heath Wood singled and scored on a
Taylor Hayes RBI-double. Hayes then scored on a
Kyle Hubbuch single.
Union added three runs in the second inning and two in the fourth for a 7-2 lead. The Lions scored a run in the fifth when
Dylan Calhoun doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Kevin Hall. The Bulldogs answered with two of their own in the sixth for a 9-3 advantage.
UNA's run in the eighth inning came on a solo home run by Hall, his seventh of the season.
Conner Kiser then singled in the ninth and scored on a
Davis Elliott RBI-double. Elliott then scored on a Calhoun single to make the final count 9-6.
Todd Gibson (2-6) took the loss for UNA, allowing five runs on five hits over two innings. He walked three and struckout three.
Bradley Bailey pitched three and two-thirds innings and gave up three runs on three hits.
Dylan Stewart allowed a run on two hits in one and a third innings of work, and
Blake Talley pitched two scoreless innings to close the game.
The Lions are scheduled to play at Stillman Tuesday at 3 p.m.
