FLORENCE, Ala. --
Bryant Claunch pitched five scoreless innings in his first collegiate start and the Lions backed him with 19 runs on 14 hits as North Alabama rolled to a 19-1 win over LeMoyne-Owen at Mike Lane Field.
UNA took control of the game with a five-run second inning and then added a run in the third, four in the fourth, four in the sixth and five in the eighth. LeMoyne-Owen scored its only run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
With the win, North Alabama is now 4-3 overall. LeMoyne-Owen falls to 0-5.
Claunch (1-0), a freshman from Florence, allowed just two hits and two walks over five innings on the mound and struckout six in collecting his first collegiate win.
Garret Gillum allowed one run and one hit in two innings of relief.
Will Bishop and
Jonathan Cook each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
UNA sent 16 different batters to the plate in the game and 11 delivered at least one hit.
Logan Carter,
Peyton Sockwell and
Drake Tucker led the attack with two hits each. Sockwell and
Chris Blakey had two runs batted in each.
North Alabama opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend at West Georgia.
