FLORENCE, Ala. – Pinch-hitter
Brandt Holland drilled a three-run home run over the leftfield fence in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the University of North Alabama an 8-7 walk-off win over Alabama-Huntsville in the final game of a Gulf South Conference series.
With the win, North Alabama improved to 20-14 overall and 13-8 in the GSC. Alabama-Huntsville falls to 15-18 overall and 10-11 in the GSC.
North Alabama won two out of three games against the Chargers and secured its sixth series win out of seven total GSC series in 2017.
North Alabama held a 4-0 lead through six innings before the Chargers put two runs on the board in the seventh inning and five more in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, UNA's
Davis Elliott reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout.
Drake Tucker then singled and
Kyle Hubbuch drove in Elliott with a single to make it 7-5. With two outs, Holland hit the game-winner to lift the Lions to the 8-7 victory.
Channing Wall (1-1) got the win for UNA in one and a third innings of relief. He allowed three hits and one run, while striking out two. UAH closer Taylor Clemons (2-2) took the loss. He surrendered four runs on three hits in one and two-thirds innings of relief.
UNA starter
Devan Traglia pitched 7.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Dylan Stewart pitched one third of an inning and gave up three runs on two hits.
Hubbuch's sacrifice fly in the first and Tucker's RBI-single in the third gave UNA a 2-0 lead.
Peyton Sockwell's two-run homer in the sixth extended it to 4-0.
