NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of North Alabama baseball team picked up its ninth straight win, downing Trevecca Nazarene 9-7 on the road.
With the win, UNA is now 32-15 and will play its final regular-season series beginning Saturday at Valdosta State. Trevecca is now 18-20.
The nine-game winning streak is the longest for a UNA baseball team since 2011.
After Trevecca took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, UNA answered with two runs in the top of the second.
Peyton Sockwell,
Brandt Holland Ben Cooley all walked to load the bases. Sockwell then scored on an error and Holland scored on a passed ball for a 2-1 UNA lead.
In the fourth, UNA extended its lead with three more runs. Cooley singled,
Chris Blakey was hit-by-pitch and
Payton Thomas had a two-run single to make it 4-1. After
T.J. Lockett singled and
Drake Tucker walked,
Kyle Hubbuch forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Trevecca got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and UNAÂ responded with one of its own in the top of the sixth. Tucker tripled and Hubbuch drove him in with an RBI-double.
The Trojans would pull within one run after scoring one in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it 6-5.
North Alabama scored three more in the eighth to regain its four-run lead. Lockett, Elliott and Tucker all singled to load the bases. Hubbuch drove in two runs with a single and Tucker scored on a passed ball to make it 9-5.
Hubbuch would finish the game with two hits and four runs batted in.
After a strong eighth inning, UNA closer
Channing Wall gave up two runs in the ninth as Chandler Miller doubled and Tyler Burns followed with a two-run homer.
Priest pitched four innings for the Lions, allowing just one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Lane Wallace (5-4), picked up the win, pitching two innings and giving up two runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Dylan Stewart pitched the seventh inning and allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and a strikeout. Wall pitched the final two innings and surrendered two runs on two hits.
