Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

JACKSONVILLE STATE DOWNS UNA MEN 64-50

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State forced 19 turnovers and held the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to 33 percent shooting from the floor in a 64-50 home win Tuesday evening at Pete Matthews Coliseum. With the loss, UNA falls to 3-9 on the season.

UNA was held without a player in double figures for the first time this season. Jamari Blackmon led the Lions with nine points and seven rebounds on the night.

JSU was able to attack the basket and get multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game. The Gamecocks grabbed 39 rebounds on the night, including 15 on offense, leading to 20 second-chance points. Jax State also held a commanding 34-18 advantage in points in the paint.

JSU broke an early 12-12 tie with five straight points to take the lead for good in the first half. The home team lead by as many as 11 points before UNA closed the half with baskets by Christian Agnew and Jamari Blackmon to make the score 31-24 at the break.

An early three-point basket by Aleksa Matic pulled the Lions to within four points early in the second half. The Lions, however, would go 6:05 without scoring while JSU built a double-digit lead. A dunk off an offensive rebound capped a 14-0 run for the Gamecocks and gave Jax State a 45-27 lead with 14:29 remaining.

North Alabama was able to cut the deficit to 10 points twice down the stretch but could never get within single digits. A three-pointer by Kendarius Smith capped a 13-5 run for the Lions and made the score 50-40 at the 8:40 mark.

UNA, however, would get no closer. The Gamecocks quickly pushed the lead back to 17 points and the Lions never challenged again.

Matic, Smith and Kendall Stafford also scored eight points each for North Alabama. JSU (7-4) was led by Jason Burnell's 19 points.

UNA will play at Virginia Military on Dec. 21. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (CST) on the VMI campus in Lexington, Va.
