NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of North Alabama's six-game winning streak came to an end as Trevecca Nazarene scored three runs in the eighth inning to break open a tie game and down the Lions 6-3.
With the loss, UNA is now 6-4 overall and 0-4 on the road this season. Trevecca improved to 3-3.
North Alabama took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Trevecca tied it with single runs in the second and third innings before UNA regained the lead with a run in the fifth. The Trojans then loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth and pushed three runs across for the win.
In the top of the first,
Davis Elliott doubled and
Kyle Hubbuch followed with a two-run home run. It was Hubbuch's fourth home run of the season and the 31st of his career.
Trevecca's Michael Brown singled in the second and moved up on a balk. He then scored on a single by Sam Mang.
The Trojans tied the game in the third on UNA error and double to make it 2-2.
In the top of the fourth,
Peyton Sockwell doubled and went to third on a passed ball. He then scored on a Peyton Thomas ground out to give UNA a 3-2 lead.
Trevecca tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and the game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth.
Josh Stillman started for UNA and pitched two and two-thirds innings, alllowing two runs on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Bryant Claunch followed and also pitched two and two-thirds, giving up one run on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Austin Nichols (1-1) too the loss, pitching an inning and two-thirds and allowed three runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Jonathan Cook pitched one inning and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
UNA out-hit Trevecca ten to eight but made three errors. Â
North Alabama opens Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a three-game home series against West Florida.
