FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama scored a season-high 20 runs on 19 hits and rolled to a 20-0 win over Blue Mountain College at Mike Lane Field.
With the win, North Alabama is now 22-12, while Blue Mountain falls to 22-13.
UNA scored at least one in each of the first seven innings and steadily built its lead.
Freshman
Jacob Laws (1-0) got his first collegiate win, pitching four scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, walked one and struckout three.
Austin Nichols and
Garret Gillum pitched two scoreless innings of relief each and
Nick Cummings pitched a scoreless ninth.
Offensively, UNA got hits from 11 different batters and 11 players scored runs for the Lions.
UNA loaded the bases in the first inning and
T.J. Lockett scored on a ground-out by
Tate Mathis. The Lions scored five in the second inning, drawing two bases loaded walks, getting a two-run double from
Brandt Holland and a sacrifice fly from Mathis.
Already leading 6-0, UNA scored four more runs in the third. A
Kevin Brenning RBI-single and a three-run home run from
Kyle Hubbuch made it 10-0. It was Hubbuch's 11th homer of the season and 38th of his career.
A two-run
Ben Cooley home run in the fourth made it 12-0 and Holland doubled and scored on a fielder's choice in the fifth to push it to 13-0. UNA then sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run, sixth inning.
Brett Baker and
Peyton Sockwell both drove in runs when they were hit by pitches with the bases loaded. Hubbuch and Cooley added a sac flies and
Davis Elliott and
Payton Thomas had RBI-singles.
Brenning scored the final run in the seventh he doubled and later scored on a double-play to make the score 20-0.
Thomas led UNA with three hits and
Conner Kiser, Cooley, Hubbuch, Holland, Brenning and Lockett had two hits each.
North Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference play this weekend when the Lions host a three-game series against West Georgia.
