DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson broke open a 2-2 game with three runs in the third inning and the went on to down North Alabama 8-3 at Wilson Field in the first game of a three-game weekend series.
Davidson took a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. UNA tied it with two runs in the second but the Wildcats added runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for the win.
With the loss, UNA is now 3-13 overall. Davidson improved to 7-6.
UNA starter
Jacob Laws allowed five runs on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts over three innings.
Garret Gillum pitched an inning and two thirds and gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits.
Kaleb Barnes,
Austin Nichols and
Josh Stillman also pitched for the Lions.
North Alabama scored two runs in the second inning as
Ben Kiefer and
Reid Homan both singled.
Peyton Sockwell then singled and an error by the right fielder allowed Kiefer to score on the play. A subsequent error by the Davidson catcher allowed Homan to score and tie the game at 2-2 at that point.
Down 8-2, UNA got two runs back in the eighth.
Davis Elliott doubled and
Tate Mathis singled. A
Landon Langston sacrifice fly scored Elliott and a Kiefer RBI-single scored Mathis.
North Alabama and Davidson play at 1 p.m. Saturday and conclude the series with an 11:00 a.m. game on Sunday.
