Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. --
Colin Chamblin pitched five shutout innings and the University of North Alabama backed him with eight runs on 11 hits as the Lions downed Alabama 8-1 at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Lions and puts UNA's season record at 4-19. Alabama State is now 13-13 overall.
North Alabama got two runs in the third inning before Alabama State countered with a run in the sixth. UNA then blew the game open with a five-run seventh and the Lions added an insurance run in the ninth.
In the UNA third,
Kevin Brenning reached on a fielder's choice and
Ben Kiefer and
Tate Mathis walked to load the bases. A walk to
Colt Chrestman forced in the first run and
Peyton Sockwell singled in the second run.
In the UNA seventh,
Davis Elliott doubled and scored on a Kiefer RBI-single. Mathis singled in Kiefer and Chrestman doubled to give the Lions runners on second and third. A
Reid Homan single drove in two runs and a
Harris Kain RBI-single plated the fifth run of the inning.
Sockwell scored UNA's final run when he walked and later scored on a wild pitch in the ninth.
Chamblin (1-3) got the win and allowed no runs on one hit over five complete innings. He struckout four. Six other Lion pitchers combined to limit Alabama State to one run on five hits.
North Alabama returns to ASUN Conference play Friday as the Lions host a three-game series against Stetson.
