FLORENCE, Ala. -- Stetson scored runs in six of the first seven innings and went on to a 12-1 win over North Alabama at Mike Lane Field in ASUN Conference baseball action.
UNA fell behind 6-0 before scoring its lone run in the bottom of the third inning and the Hatters put six more on the board to take their first ASUN win of the season. North Alabama is now 4-20 overall and 0-4 in the ASUN. Stetson improved to 11-14 overall and 1-0 in the league.
The Lions threw seven pitchers in the game after UNA starter
Chase Best left the game after just a third of an inning with an injury. Best allowed an unearned run on one hit and a walk and took the loss to fall to 0-7.
In all, UNA pitchers allowed 12 runs on 11 hits with eight walks and eight strikeouts.
UNA's lone run came in the third when
Davis Elliott doubled, went to third on an error and scored on a ground-out by
Landon Langston.
The Lions and Hatters will play the second game of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Saturday. The starting time was moved up an hour due to the possibility of rain later in the day.
