FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Gulf Coast used a hit batter, a wild pitch and a two-out single to score a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, breaking a 5-5 tie and taking a 6-5 win over North Alabama in the final game of an ASUN Conference series.
UNA led 3-0 early and 5-4 in the seventh inning before FGCU tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Lions couldn't mount any offense in their portion of the eighth and ninth innings. leaving the door open for the Eagles.
FGCU's Keith Stevens was hit-by-pitch with one out, Cameron Krzeminski came on to run for him and moved up on a wild pitch. After a strikeout and intentional walk, Corey Clement singled through the left side to drive in the winning run.
North Alabama is now 11-32 overall and 5-12 in ASUN play. FGCU improved to 30-14 overall and 12-3 in the ASUN.
Davis Elliott got a leadoff double in the first inning and
Kevin Brenning walked. Elliott later scored on an error and Brenning scored on a balk to make it 2-0.
In the second inning,
Landon Langston singled and later scored on a
Harris Kain ground-out.
The Eagles got two runs in the fourth and took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the fifth.
In the seventh,
Peyton Sockwell and
Reid Homan doubled.
Colt Chrestman then delivered a two-out, two-run single to put UNA back on top 5-4.
Kaleb Barnes (0-1) took the loss for UNA, allowing one run on two hits over two and a third innings.
Adam Mancour started and pitched four complete innings, giving up two runs on six hits.
Colin Chamblin allowed two runs in just a third of an inning and
Keegan Foge allowed a run on one hit in two innings on the mound.
North Alabama hosts Alabama A&M on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Mike Lane Field.
