AUBURN, Ala. -- North Alabama held 5-0 and 7-6 leads but Auburn rallied to down the Lions 8-7 in 11 innings at Plainsman Park.
With the loss, UNA is now 16-35, while Auburn is 31-21.
UNA took a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning but Auburn tied it in the bottom of the frame. The Lions could not push a run across in the 10th or 11th innings and Auburn finally claimed the win in the bottom of the 11th when Judd Ward singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on an Everett Lau RBI-single for the 8-7 win.
North Alabama out-hit Auburn 12 to nine, led by
Kevin Brenning who was four-for-six with two runs scored, four runs batted in and three doubles.
In the top of the first,
Davis Elliott got a leadoff single and
Kevin Brenning doubled.
Peyton Sockwell sacrificed in Elliott and
Reid Homan singled in Brenning for a 2-0 lead. In the second,
Drew Hudson,
Harris Kain and
Davis Elliott all walked to load the bases. Brenning then doubled in all three runners for a 5-0 lead.
Auburn got three runs back in the bottom of the second inning on a three-run Steven Williams home run. The Tigers got another run in the bottom of the fourth and left the bases loaded, then tied the game on a solo homer in the fifth by Will Holland. The Tigers scored all five of the runs with two outs in the respective innings.
With the game tied 5-5 in the top of the eighth, UNA loaded the bases with two outs as
Tate Mathis walked,
Reid Singewald singled and
Colt Chrestman walked. Auburn reliever Will Morrison then struckout
Harris Kain to end the threat.
In the Auburn eighth, UNA reliever
Keegan Foge hit Holland, who then stole second, went to third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead.
Down 6-5 going to the ninth inning, UNA got a leadoff double from Elliott and he scored on a Brenning RBI-double to tie the game. With two outs,
Ben Kiefer drove in Brenning with an RBI-single to give the Lions back the lead.
Auburn tied the game in the bottom of the ninth as
Kaleb Barnes walked three batters and allowed an RBI-single that allowed the Tigers to tie the game at 7-7.
UNA starter
Adam Mancour pitched three complete innings, allowing three runs on one hit with two walks and one strikeout.
Josh Stillman pitched four innings and gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Foge pitched one inning and allowed a run on a hit. Barnes pitched the ninth inning and allowed a run and
Garret Gillum (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in one and a third innings.
