SOCCER LIONS HOST TENNESSEE TECH FRIDAY

FLORENCE, Ala. -- Fresh off a 3-0 win over in-state rival Jacksonville State, the University of North Alabama women's soccer team will try and keep its record perfect against Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) schools when the Lions host Tennessee Tech on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.

UNA stands at 2-2 overall with losses to Ole Miss and Chattanooga and wins over Southern Illinois and JSU.

Tennessee Tech enters the match with an 0-2-2 record. The Eagles tied South Alabama (2-2) and Troy (0-0) before losing to Arizona State (7-1) and Arizona (3-0). Arizona State is coached by former UNA women's soccer coach Graham Winkworth.

UNA is 1-2 all-time against Tennessee Tech with a 4-0 win over the Eagles in Cookeville in 2018 in the last meeting. The Lions lost to Tennessee Tech in UNA's first two seasons of soccer in 1997 and 1998, 3-2 in overtime in 1997 in Florence and 2-0 in Cookeville in 1998.

UNA has won all three of its soccer games against OVC schools since joining Division I. The Lions downed Jacksonville State in 2018 and 2019 and beat Tennessee Tech in 2018.

With her two goals against Jacksonville State on Sunday, UNA senior Shelby Wall of Auburn, Ala., now has 25 career goals and has moved into eighth place on the school's career scoring list. She leads UNA with three goals this season.

Following the home match with Tennessee Tech, UNA will begin a four match road swing at Alabama A&M on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 1 p.m. The Lions will then play at Abilene Christian, Alabama State and Jackson State before returning home to begin ASUN Conference play against Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday, Sept. 22.
