FLORENCE, Ala. -- Murray State broke a 5-5 tie with a solo home run in the sixth inning and added a two-run shot in the seventh to claim an 8-5 win over North Alabama at Mike Lane Field.
UNA took an early 3-0 lead with a three-run second inning but Murray countered with five runs of its own in the top of the third. The Lions tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings but the Racers rallied for the win.
UNA is now 3-13 overall, while Murray State improved to 10-7
In North Alabama's second inning,
Tate Mathis singled,
Landon Langston walked,
Luke Harper singled and Mathis scored on a wild pitch.
Ben Kiefer drove in the second run on a ground-out and
Grayson Throneberry singled in the final run.
After cruising through the first two innings, UNA starter
Cosi Scinta ran into trouble in the third inning allowing two hits and two walks and all four of the base-runners would eventually score.
Garret Gillum came on in relief and gave up four straight hits, allowing four of the Racers' five runs in the inning to score.
Drew Hudson singled and scored in the fourth for UNA and Mathis singled and scored on a Kiefer ground-out in the fifth to tie the game.
Murray's Sean Darmafall homered in the sixth and Brock Anderson hit a two-run shot in the seventh to make the final count 8-4.
Gillum (0-1) took the loss for UNA.
North Alabama plays at Samford Wednesday and then returns to host a three-game series at Mike Lane Field beginning on Friday against Bowling Green.
