LIONS DOWN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 3-1 FOR FIRST ASUN WIN

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama volleyball team picked up its first win in ASUN Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Central Arkansas Friday evening at Flowers Hall. The 25-23, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19 victory gives the Lions a 7-14 overall record with a 1-7 mark in league play.
 
Katy Floyd led three UNA players in double-digit kill totals. The freshman from Louisville, Ky., had 17 kills and added 11 digs, two service aces and a pair of block assists on the night.
 
The match featured 45 ties and 22 lead changes. The only time either team led by more than four points was when the Sugar Bears opened the third set on a 7-0 run. UNA rallied to grab a 12-11 lead and stayed within striking distance the rest of the way.
 
A kill by Maggie Sullivan tied the set at 20-20 before UCA scored five of the next seven points to get the win and avoid the sweep.
 
In the fourth set, the Lions took control late. With the score deadlocked at 16-16, a kill by Sullivan and two attack errors against UCA gave the home team a three-point lead. North Alabama led 21-18 when a kill and a solo block by AK Griggs put the Lions on the brink of victory. At 24-19, Griggs and Matrice Harris then teamed up for a block assist that ended the match.
 
Sullivan hit .286 and finished with 16 kills on the night. Kamryn Parsonage added 11 kills while Breylee Linder had 51 assists and 14 digs. Griggs finished the match with nine kills, and nine blocks. Katie Gerig led all players with 21 digs on the night.
 
Lexi Miller led Central Arkansas (4-12 overall, 2-5 ASUN) with 11 kills.
 
UNA will now turn its attention to the second ASUN Crossover next weekend. The Lions will face FGCU, Jacksonville and Liberty Friday-Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.
