UNA RALLY COMES UP SHORT AT EASTERN KENTUCKY

RICHMOND, Ky., – A rally in the fourth set helped the University of North Alabama volleyball team avoid a sweep, but the Lions could not complete the comeback Saturday in a 3-1 loss at Eastern Kentucky. The 13-25, 21-25, 31-29, 20-25 loss keeps UNA winless in ASUN Conference play at 0-4. The Lions are 6-12 overall.
 
Freshmen Katy Floyd and Miya-Cole Brown had 14 kills each for UNA. It was a career-high total for Brown. AK Griggs and Maggie Sullivan also produced 13 kills each.
 
After falling in the first two sets, North Alabama was facing a possible sweep after EKU reached match point with a 24-22 lead in the third game. The Lions, however, got a pair of kills by Griggs to tie the game. UNA then had four set points of its own before the Colonels regained match point at 29-28.
 
The Lions were then able to extend the match with three straight kills by Sullivan, Griggs and Brown in the 31-29 victory.
 
EKU never trailed in the fourth set, leading by as many as eight before holding off another North Alabama rally attempt down the stretch.
 
UNA will play at Jacksonville State on Friday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at Pete Matthews Coliseum on the JSU campus.
