UNA BEACH VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS AUSTIN PEAY

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn., – A pair of wins at Austin Peay on Friday gave the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team an 11-8 record on the season. UNA knocked off the Lady Govs 5-0 and 4-1 to close out the regular season.

North Alabama took control early in both matches. Mackenzie Martin and Catie Ladner got the Lions off to a fast start each time at the No. 4 position before Mackenzie Blackwood and Samantha Shafer made the lead 2-0 with two more wins at the No. 5 spot.

The clinching point came at No. 2 in both matches. In the opener, Paula Klemperer and Natalie Kordt used a 25-19, 25-6 win to give the Lions the overall victory. In the second match, the duo teamed up for a 21-19, 21-10 triumph to clinch.

UNA's Lauren Quigley and Jelena Girod added wins at No. 3 in both matches. At No. 1, the Lions went to three sets in each match. Maya Dickson and Taylor Seney posted a win in the first meeting to give UNA the 5-0 sweep. The duo fell in the third set of the final match of the day.

The UNA beach team will now turn its attention to the upcoming ASUN Conference championships. The tournament will be held April 23-24 on the campus of Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.
