MONTEVALLO, Ala. --
Janeth Jepkirui ran the seventh fastest 6,000 meter time in school history to lead the University of North Alabama women's cross country team to a strong third place finish at the UAB Blazer Classic.
UNA had a final team score of 86, trailing only Memphis (76) and Mississippi College (82) in the 16-team field.
"It was a great team performance this morning," said UNA cross country coach
Jeremy Provence. "They got off to a great start looking confident early and showed a lot of courage in the second half of the race. We are in a great spot as we prepare for postseason."
Jepkirui's time of 21:53.90 led a team of 11 Lion runners in the race.
