HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Mississippi scored three runs in four different innings as the Golden Eagles picked up a 14-1 win over North Alabama at Pete Taylor Park in the final game of a three-game series.
USM got 12 hits in the game and was the beneficiary of five bases on balls.
North Alabama was held to four hits against USM, with one each from
Reid Homan,
Devne Daniel,
Luke Harper and
Drew Hudson.
UNA, now 0-3, will travel to Nashville to face second ranked Vanderbilt on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
On Sunday, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the second inning and added three more in the third for a 6-0 lead.
UNA got its only run in the top of the fifth inning when Homan got a leadoff single, stole second and scored on
Drew Hudson's RBI-single.
Austin Nichols (0-1) took the loss for UNA, allowing six runs on six hits over three complete innings. He also walked three batters.
Austin Emener followed Nichols and allowed three runs on five hits in his three innings of work, recording four strikeouts with one walk. Brycen Richter pitched one inning and allowed three runs on one hit with one walk.
John Lundgren was the final Lion pitcher of the day, allowing two runs on two walks and an error.
Southern Miss., answered with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-1 advantage.
USM then added two more runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 14-1.
