BEACH LIONS GET TWO WINS AT EKU TOURNEY

RICHMOND, Ky.,  – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team picked up two wins on the opening day of the Eastern Kentucky Tournament on Friday. The Lions defeated Jacksonville State and Eastern Illinois by identical 4-1 scores to even their record at 8-8 on the season.
 
In the early match against JSU, the Lions won the first four matches, including the clinching point at the No. 3 position. Taylor Seney and Allison Temple clinched the match with the 21-13, 21-17 victory.
 
UNA added another point with a win at the top spot before the Gamecocks avoided the shutout with a win at No. 2.
 
Against Eastern Illinois, the Lions again took a 2-0 lead with a pair of victories at the bottom of the lineup. Mackenzie Martin and Catie Ladner then clinched the match with a 21-18, 21-19 win at the No. 2 position.
 
North Alabama extended the lead to 4-0 before EIU wrapped up the scoring with a three-set victory at the No. 1 position.
 
UNA will remain in Richmond for two matches on Saturday. The Lions will face Austin Peay at 10 a.m., followed by a 4 p.m. showdown against the host Colonels.
