FLORENCE, Ala. (December 5, 2023) – The University of North Alabama baseball team announced the non-conference schedule for the 2024 baseball season on Tuesday. The UNA non-conference slate features four weekend sets to go along with 12 midweek matchups.
 
"Our 2024 slate of games will be highly competitive, and the mix of some tough early weekends combined with challenging midweek games throughout the season will get us prepared and keep us sharp for conference play," said UNA head coach Jad Prachniak.

NOTES
 
Season Opener: North Alabama opens up the season with a three game round robin style weekend set at South Alabama. The Lions are set to square off with South Alabama to open the campaign on Feb. 16 before taking on Southern Indiana on Feb. 17 and Lamar on Feb. 18, both in Mobile, Ala. 

"The opening weekend will be a good test for us," said Prachniak. "Having the chance to compete against three quality programs in a round robin format will force us to be prepared for different styles of play on each day."
 
Lions at Home: The remaining three non-conference weekend sets will all take place at Mike D. Lane Field. UNA is set to host Morehead State on Feb. 23-25, along with opponents set to be announced at a later date on March 1-3 and  on March 8-10. The all three sets will take place Friday-Sunday.
 
"We are looking forward to hosting three strong opponents in non-conference weekends leading up to ASUN play," said Prachniak. "It is always nice to be able to play at home in February and March."
 
Midweek Madness: The 2024 UNA baseball schedule features 12 midweek matchups, including four at home and eight on the road. The Lions will have midweek home-and-homes against Belmont, Murray State and Samford during the year. To round out the midweek games, UNA will host Alabama A&M on April 2, and will travel to Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
 
"We have some tough midweek matchups along the way, and we are fortunate to have so many quality programs in our region," Prachniak added. "We will get to play against two of the premiere programs in the country with fan bases and facilities that create some of the best environments in college baseball at Ole Miss and Mississippi State."
 
Close to Home: Ten of UNA's 11 non-conference road games will take place in Alabama or a neighboring state. North Alabama will play four games in Alabama, four in Tennessee and two in Mississippi, with the only other game coming on Feb. 27 at Murray State in Kentucky. 
 
Familiar Faces: Five UNA non-conference opponents for 2024 were also featured on the 2023 UNA baseball schedule. Belmont, Murray State, Samford and Tennessee Tech all squared off against North Alabama last season, while the Lions had a game originally scheduled against MTSU on May 10 that was canceled due to rain.
