YOUNGSVILLE, La. --  The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team split its matches on the opening aday of the Mardi Gras Invitational at Sugar Beach, falling 3-2 to Houston Christian before rebounding with a 5-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana

The Lions are now 10-7 overall and will face Texas A&M-Kingsville and Nicholls on Saturday.

In the Lions opening match of the day, four of the five pairs went three sets, with UNA claiming wins at No. 1 and No. 4.

Jelena Girod and Natalie Kordt earned UNA's first point of the day with a 20-22, 23-21, 18-16 comeback win at No. 4. Paula Klemperer and Taylor Seney then added a win at No. 1, 21-18, 21-18.

HCU got the winning point at No. 3 with a 17-21, 21-19, 15-8 win over UNA's Selma Robinson and Marti McLaurin.

In the second match, UNA picked up straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 and got three-set wins at No. 2, 4 and 5 got the 5-0 win. UNA had narrowly defeated Southeastern Louisiana earlier in the season, 3-2.

After identical 15-10 wins in the third set at No. 4 and No. 5, UNA's No. 1 pair of Klemperer and Seney won 22-20 23-21 to clinch the team win.
