Choudrant, La. (September 9, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team heads to Choudrant, La. on Sept. 10-12 for the Argent Financial Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech at Squire Creek Country Club. This will be UNA's second tournament of the fall after wrapping up the Iowa Fall Classic on Sept. 6.

Captain Phillips: North Alabama head men's golf coach Austin Phillips concluded his first match at the helm of the Lions program with a team finish of 3rd in the Iowa Fall Classic. The finish of 3rd is the best finish by a North Alabama head coach in his debut with the team since Stuart Clark led the Lions to a first place finish on Sept. 17-18, 2010 in the Derrall Foreman Invitational in Cleveland, Miss.

Iowa Fall Classic Recap: North Alabama placed third among 13 teams participating in the Iowa Fall Classic with a team score of 860. The Lions finished the tournament four-over-par and trailed just Iowa State at four-under-par and Iowa at two-under-par. North Dakota State (+7) and Wright State (+9) finished behind UNA to round out the rest of the tournament's top five teams.

Top Ten: The top 10 of the Iowa Fall Classic individual leaderboard featured three Lion golfers. Eric Luo (T-5th), Sebastian Bengtsson (T-5th) and Andrew Ferworn (T-9th) all placed among the 10 best golfers throughout the tournament's three rounds. UNA has only had three golfers place in the top 10 of a tournament two other times since the jump to Division I, both times coming during the 2022-23 season.

Personal Best: North Alabama sophomore Eric Luo notched a 67 in the first round of the Iowa Fall Classic, his career low. Luo's previous best individual round was the second round of The Grover Page Classic on Sept. 19-20, 2022 where he shot a 69. His first round mark of 67 tied for the second-lowest individual round of all three rounds of the Iowa Fall Classic.

First Impressions: Two of the three Lion individuals who placed in the top 10 of the Iowa Fall Classic are newcomers who were participating in their first match as a member of the North Alabama men's golf program. Texas Permian Basin transfer Sebastian Bengtsson tied for fifth in the tournament with a 214. The Helsingborg, Sweden native finished the day two-under-par and had a low round of 69 in the third round. UNA freshman Andrew Ferworn finished one stroke behind Bengtsson with a 215. Ferworn tied for the best UNA round of the day with Eric Luo, also notching a 67 in the first round of the tournament.
