MADISON, Ala. (March 15, 2024) – The University of North Alabama baseball team hosts Kennesaw State at Toyota Field in Madison, Ala. for a three-game set on March 16-17. The ASUN conference opener was originally slated to be played at Mike D. Lane Field in Florence before being moved to Toyota Field due to field conditions.

Change of Scenery: The series against Kennesaw State will be played at Toyota Field due to field conditions at Mike D. Lane Field. The home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas hosted North Alabama and Auburn last season for a midweek game on Feb. 21.
 
Moving Up the Ranks: North Alabama starting pitcher Jacob James tied his career high for strikeouts on Saturday against UT Martin with 12. That total moved him into sole possession of second place on the UNA all-time strikeout list. He now has 216 career strikeouts and is 64 shy of tying Chad Boughner for first place with 280 punchouts. 
 
Top Ten: James also ranks 10th in all of NCAA Division I baseball with 38 strikeouts. He is just 10 strikeouts behind the leader with 48 in four less innings pitched. 
 
Conference Opener: The series against Kennesaw State serves as the 2024 ASUN Conference opener for both squads. The Lions have 10 conference series this season. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the ASUN Conference Tournament where the winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
See Ya' Later: North Alabama has slugged 14 home runs in the last 12 games after not hitting one in the first four games of the season. Six UNA players have hit at least two home runs on the season while two others have one homer.
 
Bring Out the Brooms: Over the weekend, the UNA staff allowed just three runs to UT Martin in a series sweep, the fewest in a three-game series since three consecutive shutouts over Christian Brothers in 2018. The series over Christian Brothers came in North Alabama's final season as members of the Gulf South Conference in Division II.

Scouting the Owls: Kennesaw State enters the game against the Lions with a 9-8 record. The Owls season has been highlighted by a series victory over Kentucky last weekend and an 18-1 victory over Clemson earlier this season. The Lions and Owls share a common opponent in UAB, both KSU and UNA lost the series 1-2 to the Blazers.
 
Kennesaw State Series History: The two clubs have met 10 times prior to this weekend series. Kennesaw State holds the all-time edge over UNA with a 7-3 record. The Lions took the series last season, sweeping a three-game set over the Owls in Kennesaw.
