NOTES
The Rundown: Following a pair of KSU wins in a Saturday doubleheader, UNA picked up the first ASUN win of the season over the Owls on Sunday.
Anthony Pingeton and
Dane Sykes combined for 9.0 innings, allowing just five hits and two runs. North Alabama broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh on a two-run home run off the bat of redshirt junior catcher
Andin Johnson and went on to win 4-2.
Moving Up the Ranks: Southpaw
Jacob James tallied three more strikeouts on Friday against Kennesaw State, bringing his season total to 41. He now has 219 strikeouts on his career, a jumper that puts him in second place on the UNA all-time strikeout list. The senior from Loretto, Tenn. is just 61 shy of tying Chad Boughner for first place with 280 punchouts.
Closing in on 300: North Alabama head baseball coach Jad Prachniak has 294 career wins entering Tuesday's contest with Tennessee Tech. Prachniak came to UNA with 273 career victories at Division II West Chester where he won two NCAA National Championships.
Change of Scenery: Due to weather and field conditions at Mike D. Lane Field, the ASUN opening series against Kennesaw State was moved to Toyota Field in Madison, Ala. The Rocket City Trash Pandas hosted UNA over the weekend as UNA took one of the three games.
See Ya' Later: North Alabama slugged 16 home runs in the last 15 games after not hitting one in the first four games of the season. Six UNA players have hit at least two home runs this season while three others have one homer.
Gehrig Frei leads the squad with three home runs.
Bring Out the Brooms: On March 8-10, the UNA staff allowed just three runs to UT Martin in a series sweep, the fewest in a three-game series since three consecutive shutouts over Christian Brothers in 2018. The series over Christian Brothers came in North Alabama's final season as members of NCAA Division II.
Scouting the Golden Eagles: Tennessee Tech enters the game against the Lions with a 12-8 record. The Owls season has been highlighted by series victories over fellow ASUN schools Bellarmine and Queens. The Golden Eagles are led by head coach Matt Bragga who is in his second stint with the program and has 509 career wins at Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee Tech Series History: The two clubs have met 16 times prior to this weekend series. Tennessee Tech holds the 9-7 all-time edge over UNA, which includes a 6-3 record over the Lions in games played in Cookeville.
