Moving Up the Ranks: Southpaw
Jacob James tallied three more strikeouts on March 16 against Kennesaw State, bringing his season total to 41. He now has 219 strikeouts for his career, a number that puts him in second place on the UNA all-time strikeout list. The senior from Loretto, Tenn. is just 61 shy of tying Chad Boughner for first place with 280 punchouts.
Closing in on 300: North Alabama head baseball coach Jad Prachniak has 295 career wins entering the weekend series with Eastern Kentucky. Prachniak came to UNA with 273 career victories at Division II West Chester where he won two NCAA National Championships.
Big Bad Dom: On Tuesday against Tennessee Tech, UNA center fielder
Dominick McIntyre enjoyed a 3-for-4 day at the plate, including a home run, double and four RBI's. The senior from Lawrenceville, Ga. is riding a team-high six game hitting streak and is batting .450 with nine hits across that span.
Purple Swarm: North Alabama slugged 19 home runs in the last 16 games after not hitting one in the first four games of the season. Seven UNA players have hit at least two home runs this season while two others have one homer.
Gehrig Frei leads the squad with four home runs.
Bring Out the Brooms: On March 8-10, the UNA staff allowed just three runs to UT Martin in a series sweep, the fewest in a three-game series since three consecutive shutouts over Christian Brothers in 2018. The series over Christian Brothers came in North Alabama's final season as members of NCAA Division II.
Riding the Arms: Across the last two games, UNA pitchers have allowed just 13 hits and six runs across 18.0 innings. Six Lion arms have combined for 15 strikeouts between the 4-2 Sunday victory over Kennesaw State and the 8-4 midweek win over Tennessee Tech.
Scouting the Colonels: EKU enters the weekend set against the Lions with a 4-17 record. Despite the 2-16 non-conference record, the Colonels opened up ASUN play last weekend with a 2-1 series victory over Central Arkansas. EKU is coming off of a 14-7 midweek loss to Morehead State.
EKU Series History: The two clubs have met just nine times in program history with all meetings coming in the last two seasons. EKU holds the series edge over UNA 8-1 which included a three-game sweep over North Alabama last season in Florence. UNA's lone win over the Colonels came in a 10-1 victory on March 20, 2022 at Mike D. Lane Field.
