NOTES

The Rundown: UNA matched up with ASUN leader Jacksonville for a weekend set and returned home with a Friday victory over the Dolphins. UNA rode strong performances from Kyle Machado and Jacob James on Friday to a 9-1 victory over Jacksonville before the Dolphins responded with a 9-2 win on Saturday. Jacksonville took down North Alabama in the Sunday rubber match, 5-4, in a 10-inning thriller.

ASUN Honors for James: North Alabama left-handed pitcher Jacob James was tabbed as the ASUN Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday by the league office. James tossed 7.0 frames on Friday at Jacksonville, allowing just four hits and one run while matching his career high with 12 strikeouts. It is the first ASUN honor of his career and just the third ASUN Pitcher of the Week selection in program history.

Big Fly Frei: UNA infielder Gehrig Frei leads the team with seven home runs so far this season. The redshirt sophomore has appeared in 30 games for UNA and seeks to become the first Lion since Kyle Hubbuch in 2018 to hit for double-digit home runs in a season. Frei has already matched his 2023 total of seven homers in 21 less games this year.

Record Setting Day: Gehrig Frei accounted for seven of UNA's 13 runs against Alabama A&M on April 3, driving in four while scoring three of his own. The Lion third baseman picked up North Alabama's first five-hit game of the Division I era and the most since Dylan Calhoun had five hits on April 23, 2016 against Christian Brothers.

Free Rides: North Alabama picked up 12 walks at the plate against Alabama A&M on April 3, the most since UNA tallied 12 against Miami (OH) on Feb. 26, 2023 and one shy of the Division I program record of 13 drawn against Lipscomb on May 20, 2022. Levi Jensen tied the North Alabama Division I program record with four walks in a game, joining Landon Langston (2019) and Luke Harper (2022).

Closing in on 300: North Alabama head baseball coach Jad Prachniak has 298 career wins entering the weekend series with Bellarmine. Prachniak came to UNA with 273 career victories at Division II West Chester, where he won two NCAA Division II National Championships.

Bring Out the Brooms: On March 8-10, the UNA staff allowed just three runs to UT Martin in a series sweep, the fewest in a three-game series since three consecutive shutouts over Christian Brothers in 2018. The series over Christian Brothers came in North Alabama's final season as members of NCAA Division II.

Scouting the Knights: Bellarmine enters their midweek contest against Western Kentucky with a 5-26 record on the season. Four of the five Bellarmine victories have come in ASUN play with the Knights holding a 4-8 record in conference games. Bellarmine swept North Florida on March 28-30 and took the first game of their most recent series against Austin Peay.

Bellarmine Series History: UNA and Bellarmine have met 45 times before in program history, with UNA holding the series lead 32-13. Bellarmine leads the series 8-7 since North Alabama made the jump to Division I in 2019. UNA has won the last six meetings between the schools with a pair of sweeps in 2022 and 2023.
