Baseball hosts Alabama A&M for midweek matchup

Lions and Bulldogs to meet for first time since 2022

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 2, 2024) – The University of North Alabama baseball team welcomes Alabama A&M to Florence, Ala. on Wednesday, April 3 for a midweek game at Mike D. Lane Field at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. before being moved due to inclement weather.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and will have live stats available via StatBroadcast.

NOTES
 
The Rundown: UNA picked up a 5-3 Saturday victory over Lipscomb over the weekend, using 11 hits to take down the Bisons for an ASUN victory. The Bisons took the Friday and Sunday matchups for a 2-1 series victory. UNA is now 2-7 in conference play. 
 
New Heights: North Alabama seniors Dominick McIntyre and Levi Jensen have both made improvements at the plate this season. McIntyre currently has the best batting average (.265) and slugging percentage (.410) of his UNA career, while Jensen is batting .239 with 11 hits in 19 games after batting .147 with 16 hits in 38 games last season.  
 
Hitting a Stride: After having just seven hits in his first 16 games of the season, North Alabama shortstop Leighton Jenkins has rattled off eight hits in his last 10 games, including his first multi-hit game since the season opening series on March 29 against Lipscomb. His batting average has jumped .052 points since the March 12 game against Memphis.
 
Closing in on 300: North Alabama head baseball coach Jad Prachniak has 296 career wins entering the midweek matchup with Alabama A&M. Prachniak came to UNA with 273 career victories at Division II West Chester, where he won two NCAA Division II National Championships. 
  
Home Sweet Home: UNA has a 7-10 record in home games so far this season, while holding a 2-7 record in away and neutral site matchups. The Lions sport home victories over Morehead State, UAB, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb while also boasting a series sweep over UT Martin. 
 
Bring Out the Brooms: On March 8-10, the UNA staff allowed just three runs to UT Martin in a series sweep, the fewest in a three-game series since three consecutive shutouts over Christian Brothers in 2018. The series over Christian Brothers came in North Alabama's final season as members of NCAA Division II.
 
Scouting the Bulldogs: Alabama A&M enters the midweek contest against UNA with a 3-23 overall record and a 1-8 conference record. The Bulldogs sport their three victories this season over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Stillman and Alabama State. Last year Alabama A&M wrapped up the season with a 14-34 record and a 5-24 finish in SWAC conference play. 
 
Alabama A&M Series History: The two teams have met 20 times in program history, with the Lions boasting a 17-3 series lead over the Bulldogs. UNA and Alabama A&M have met just two times since UNA's jump to Division I in 2018-19 with the teams splitting the meetings. UNA won 6-5 in 2019, while the Bulldogs took the most recent matchup 8-2 in 2022.
