NOTES
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to 2007. The Lions earned their first win in the series just nine days ago in Florence, a 2-1 win at the Cox Creek Sports Complex. UNA is now 1-5 all-time against the Governors. Thanks to ASUN divisions, this is the first time the teams will play twice in a single season. Five of the six previous contests have been during the Division I era. Former head coach Graham Winkworth faced Austin Peay in his final regular-season home game in 2007. North Alabama scored a goal in each half to down the Governors. Forward Meg Welsh opened the scoring in the 38th minute, heading in a set piece for her second goal of the season. Junior defender Gracie Tyrrell netted the game-winner in the 74th minute — her first career goal.
SCOUTING THE GOVS: Austin Peay is winless as these two meet for the second time this season. The Govs met the Lions in Florence with only having one goal through three conference games. Since then, APSU added four goals with a couple of ties – both with Central Arkansas. The team is 0-9-5 overall with an 0-4-2 ASUN record. Ellie Dreas and Vivian Burke headline the Governor offense. Burke leads in points (6) and goals (3) with 17 shots, while Dreas leads in shots (24) and shots on goal (10).
ABOUT LAST GAME: The University of North Alabama women's soccer team ended Lipscomb's win streak Thursday night with a 1-1 draw in Nashville. Sophomore midfielder Gizelle El Assal scored her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute to strike first. El Assal made a nifty move to get past two Bisons and netted the ball into the right side of the goal. With the draw, North Alabama bounced back from their Sunday match against Lipscomb, a 3-1 loss. Entering the game, the Bisons had outscored opponents 14-2 in conference play. Graduate goalkeeper Madison Vukas faced 22 shots and recorded eight saves. Lipscomb also had 22 shots, but thanks to the UNA defense, had more shots off target (13) than on target (nine).
HOT STREAK STOPS HERE: The Lipscomb Bisons entered Thursday night's matchup riding a five-game win streak against divisional opponents. Lipscomb had outscored conference foes 14-2 entering the game. The Lions notched their second goal on Lipscomb this season — the first team to score multiple goals against them — and ended the conference win streak with a 1-1 draw. This is the first tie in the series history between the two programs.
FIRST TIME FEELING: On Thursday evening, Gizelle El Assal earned her first collegiate goal against Lipscomb. The sophomore midfielder joined defender Gracie Tyrrell and freshman forward Meg Welsh as first-time goal scorers this season. El Assal made a nifty move past several Bisons to score. Tyrrell's goal was the game-winner over Austin Peay, while Welsh scored a header that was rebounded and put back in against Alabama State. There have been nine unique goal scorers this season for the Lions.
TO CONFERENCE PLAY!: The ASUN moved to two divisions ahead of the 2025 spring season, meaning teams will only play within the division during the regular season. During post season, each division matches up with the other in the first round, including top seeds against four seeds and two seeds against three seeds. All soccer postseason games will be hosted on campus sites by the top two teams in each division.
GOLD AND GRAPHITE: The ASUN Gold Division is where North Alabama will play this season, joining Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, Bellarmine, EKU and Lipscomb. The Graphite Division includes FGCU, Jacksonville, Stetson, North Florida, West Georgia and Queens.
NEXT GAME: Following the match against Austin Peay, UNA will begin a two-game home stand, starting with Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Cox Creek Sports Complex.
