JACKSONVILLE (October 13, 2025) – University of North Alabama junior Kendall Barnes and sophomore Kinslee McGowan were named the Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The third weekend of ASUN play was a sensational one for North Alabama, earning home victories over Stetson and FGCU in CB&S Bank Arena. The Lions earned their first-ever win over the Eagles while securing the second all-time win over the Hatters.
Sunday also ended FGCU's 18-match winning streak in ASUN play that spanned 364 days.
Barnes and McGowan were instrumental in the two wins, both providing career performances en route to the weekly honors. Barnes wins her first career ASUN honor, while McGowan earns her fourth Setter of the Week award this season.
Barnes' first career honor was a result of a 47-kill weekend where she had 5.22 kills per set and a .391 hitting percentage. She opened with a 16-kill performance against Stetson but saved her best for last against FGCU with 31 kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage.
McGowan totaled 116 assists across the two matches with a 12.89 per set average. She broke the Division I program record in single-match assists twice with 56 against the Hatters and 60 versus the Eagles. She also set a new career-high with 20 digs against FGCU, securing a double-double effort in the home win.
This marks North Alabama's third time this season winning multiple ASUN weekly honors in the same week. McGowan was a part of the two previous instances on Sept. 8 and Sept. 29, along with respective honors for sophomore Reese Ricketts and freshman Jenna Kolosta. Kolosta was named Freshman of the Week on Sept. 8, and Ricketts was Player of the Week on Sept. 29.
Barnes and McGowan look to continue their stellar play later this week with two road contests starting Friday, Oct. 17. The Lions travels to Carrollton, Ga. to face West Georgia then heading to Charlotte, N.C. to face Queens on Sunday, Oct. 19.
