Volleyball travels to West Georgia and Queens this weekend

Lions hit the road for clashes against the Wolves and the Royals

CARROLLTON, Ga. (October 16, 2025) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team embarks on a two-match Atlantic Sun Conference road trip this weekend against West Georgia and Queens, beginning on Friday in Carrollton, Ga.

North Alabama opens against the Wolves on Friday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. The Lions cap the road trip against the Royals on Sunday, Oct. 19 at noon in Charlotte, N.C. Both of those times are listed as central.

The West Georgia matchup will be played in The Coliseum while the Queens' bout will be played in Curry Arena. Tickets are available for both matches through the Wolves' and Royals' ticket offices.

Both matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+, and live stats will be provided through SIDEARM for West Georgia and Statbroadcast for Queens. Full results and a recap will be posted on RoarLions.com following the action, but fans can also follow along in real time on the UNA Volleyball social media pages.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama is 10-9 overall with a 4-2 ASUN record. Last time out was a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Lions with home wins over Stetson and FGCU on Oct. 10-12. UNA beat the Hatters for its second all-time win in the series history. Against the Eagles, the Lions overcame a two-set deficit to reverse sweep FGCU for the first win in series history. It marked the Eagles' first loss in conference play in 364 days, ending an 18-game win streak against ASUN foes.

THE TRIFECTA:
Junior Kendall Barnes and sophomore Kinslee McGowan were named the ASUN's Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively, on Monday, Oct. 13. Barnes totaled 47 kills with an average of 5.22 kills per set in wins against Stetson and FGCU. She recorded a career-high 31 kills on a .500 hitting percentage in the Lions' comeback win over FGCU. McGowan averaged 12.89 assists per set, tallying 56 assists against Stetson and a Division I program-record 60 against the Eagles. It marked UNA's third time this season winning multiple ASUN weekly honors in the same week.

"SETTING" THE TONE
: Sophomore Kinslee McGowan is second in the ASUN in assists per set (10.21) and leads the conference with 715 assists. The sophomore is second on the team in digs (160) and service aces (19).

KENDALL ON THE ATTACK!
: Junior Kendall Barnes leads the team with 257 kills. She ranks first in the ASUN in total kills and second in kills per set (3.72). Barnes' 282 points on the season ranks second in the conference for points per set (4.09).

ACING THE COMPETITION
: Junior Olivia Fenoff has been an ace on serve with 29 on the season. Her ace totals rank second in the ASUN with her 0.43 ace per set average tied for second.

RELIABLE RICKETTS
: Sophomore Reese Ricketts is second on the team with 221 kills and ranks third in the ASUN with 3.25 kills per set. Ricketts has contributed defensively with 135 digs (third on the team) and 24 blocks.

SURGING SARGENT
: Junior Nicole Sargent leads her team with a .350 hitting percentage. Her percentages rank her tied for fifth in the conference, totaling 108 kills on the season. She additionally leads the team with 44 blocks.

GARNER'S GAINS
: Sophomore Dylann Garner has been making strides in year two with the Lions. She's third on the team with 139 kills and tied for third with 30 blocks along with sophomore Amelia Keating. Garner exploded in the season's second match with 21 kills against SEMO on August 30.

CALLING ON KOLOSTA
: Freshman Jenna Kolosta has had a solid start at middle blocker with a season stat line of 65 kills, 31 blocks and 18 digs. Kolosta earned her first career award on Sept. 8 with the ASUN Freshman of the Week honor.

DIGGIN' DEEP
: Junior Ava Martindale is making the most in her first season as the starting libero for North Alabama. She leads the team with 220 total digs and a 3.14 digs per set average.

AMONG THE RANKS
: UNA is ranked in the top 100 nationally in a number of individual statistics as of Oct. 15. McGowan is eighth in the NCAA in total assists while 28th in assists per set. Fenoff is 50th nationally in total service aces and 64th in aces per set. Barnes is 46th in total kills while 68th in points.

MILESTONE LIONS:
North Alabama has seen several milestones achieved the season. Fenoff tallied her 50th career service ace against Grambling State on Aug. 30. McGowan registered her 500th career assist against Alabama A&M on Sept. 2. Head Coach Tristan Johnson won his 50th career match on Sept. 12 in a three-set home sweep over Western Carolina. Ricketts surpassed 500 career kills against McNeese on Sept. 19. Sophomore Lankford Gurner set a Division I program record with six aces against Lipscomb on Sept. 28.

SCOUTING WEST GEORGIA:
 The Wolves are 2-17 entering the weekend. West Georgia looks for its first ASUN victory after dropping road bouts to Bellarmine and EKU last time out. This marks North Alabama's first trip to Carrollton since 2017. The offense is led by Valiree Schmus with 192 points and 163 kills on the season. The Wolves are led by Kara Hellman.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE WOLVES:
North Alabama and West Georgia compete for the 86th time in the all-time series. UNA leads the series, 69-16, and have won eight of the last nine contests. West Georgia is the second-most storied rival in UNA Volleyball history with 85 all-time meetings, ranking behind West Alabama with 91 meetings.

SCOUTING QUEENS: The Royals are 12-7 on the season with a 3-3 ASUN record. Queens split its last weekend of action on Oct. 10-11, ending with a three-set sweep over Bellarmine. The Royals lead the conference in opponent service aces (1.06 per set), blocks (2.35) and digs (16.32). Callie DeSchryver leads with 235 points and 194 kills on the season. Queens' head coach is Matt Stolz.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE ROYALS:
This marks the fifth all-time series meeting with the Lions leading 4-0. UNA's first road bout in Charlotte resulted in a three-set sweep on Oct. 15, 2023.
