Volleyball preps for Saturday clash at Jacksonville

Lions continues road swing against league-leading Dolphins

JACKSONVILLE (October 3, 2025) – The University of North Alabama volleyball team heads to Jacksonville on Saturday, Oct. 4 for weekend Atlantic Sun Conference action versus the Dolphins. This will be a battle between two of the top four teams in the current standings.

UNA's two-game road trip concludes against Jacksonville, as the Lions look to improve to 3-1 in conference play. The Lions also look to give the Dolphins their first ASUN defeat of the season after a 3-0 start to the conference schedule.

The matchup will be played at Swisher Gymnasium and is free of charge to all spectators. The match will stream on ESPN+, and live stats will be available courtesy of SIDEARM.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama has had efficient attacking play in their past three matches. UNA has averaged a solid .317 hitting percentage since the start of ASUN play with three of their top four attacking performances of the season coming in that span. The Lions hit for a season-high .330 against Austin Peay on Sept. 26, following the performance with .301 mark against Lipscomb on Sept. 28. UNA recently hit for .319 against Central Arkansas, finishing as its highest in a road match this season.

"SETTING" THE TONE
: Sophomore Kinslee McGowan has been the point guard for the North Alabama Volleyball offense. She is tops in the conference in total assists (573) and assists per set (9.88).

KENDALL ON THE ATTACK!
: Junior Kendall Barnes has been UNA's leader on the attack, leading the team with 207 kills. She leads the ASUN in total kills and third in kills per set (3.57). Barnes has 231.5 points on the season to rank third in the conference for points per set (3.99).

ACING THE COMPETITION
: Service ace extraordinaire Olivia Fenoff has 26 on the season. She ranks second in the ASUN in total aces and her 0.46 ace per set average is third.

RELIABLE RICKETTS
: Sophomore Reese Ricketts is coming into form in her second season. She's second on the team with 163 kills and ranks ninth in the ASUN with 2.91 kills per set.

SURGING SARGENT
: Junior Nicole Sargent has been finding her mark on the attack, leading her team with a .365 hitting percentage. Her percentages rank her fourth in the conference, totaling 88 kills on the season. Sargent also leads the team with 36 blocks.

KEATING ON THE BLOCK
: Sophomore Amelia Keating is tied for ninth in the ASUN in blocks per set with 0.87. Keating set a career high with eight blocks against Liberty on Sept. 20.

DIGGIN' DEEP
: Junior Ava Martindale is making the most in her first season as the starting libero for North Alabama. She leads the team with 185 total digs and a 3.19 digs per set average.

AMONG THE RANKS
: UNA is ranked nationally in several individual statistics. McGowan is fifth in the NCAA in total assists while 35th in assists per set. Fenoff is 27th nationally in total service aces and 62nd in aces per set. Barnes is 35th in total kills while 40th in points. Sargent ranks just inside the top 100 in hitting percentage.

MILESTONE LIONS:
North Alabama has seen several milestones achieved with the Lions in ASUN play. Fenoff tallied her 50th career service ace against Grambling State on Aug. 30. McGowan registered her 500th career assist against Alabama A&M on Sept. 2. Head Coach Tristan Johnson won his 50th career match on Sept. 12 in a three-set home sweep over Western Carolina. Ricketts recently surpassed 500 career kills against McNeese on Sept. 19. Sophomore Lankford Gurner set a Division I program record with six aces against Lipscomb on Sept. 28.

IMPACT NEWCOMERS
: The new faces for UNA Volleyball have been impactful early on the season. Martindale set a career high in digs against Southeast Missouri, with Barnes tallying a career-high 21 kills against Alabama A&M. Jenna Kolosta has also had a solid start at middle blocker with a season stat line of 62 kills, 28 blocks and 17 digs. Kolosta earned her first ASUN Freshman of the Week honor on Sept. 8. Junior Jessi Ritchhart has also contributed with a Division I career-high 12 digs against SEMO.

SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE:
 The Dolphins have the league's best overall record at 12-3 and are unbeaten in the ASUN so far. Last time out, Jacksonville swept North Florida in home action on Oct. 2 The Dolphins have won four-straight and eight of their last nine matches. Jacksonville has the ASUN's most efficient attack with a .263 hitting percentage. The Dolphins have three players in the ASUN's top-10 hitting percentage leaderboard. Haley Yount leads with .489 while Claire Mrukowski (.320) is eighth and Breanna McDonough (.320) is ninth. The Dolphins' head coach is Alicia Manguiat.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE DOLPHINS: Saturday's meeting marks the 15th in the all-time series. North Alabama leads the series, 10-4, and has won four-straight meetings.
