NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama recently traveled to Richmond, Ky. where the Lions played against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. UNA won the series 2-1, marking the second series win this season for UNA in the ASUN. North Alabama won 7-3 in Friday night's game, putting five runs up before EKU notched their first. UNA won the second game 5-1, where freshman Tripp Patterson threw 6.1 scoreless innings and the Lions stole six bags a team high. Sunday's game saw a loss 6-5 as they went into extra innings where a Colonel hit a walk-off home run to end the game. The Lions now sit in second in the Gold Division and tie for the second-best record in the ASUN.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Lions are 2-8 all-time against Alabama with their most recent win coming in 2022 in Tuscaloosa as the upset bid cashed in 9-5. Since transitioning to Division I, there have only been four meetings all which have been in Tuscaloosa. This will be the first neutral site game between the two programs.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON TIDE: Alabama comes into the matchup ranked 12th in the nation with a 22-3 overall record. The Crimson Tide are 14-3 at home, 5-0 on the road and 3-0 at neutral site venues. Alabama has played eight top 25 ranked teams, going 6-2 in those matchups. The Tide recently hosted No. 1 Tennessee, a familiar foe for the Lions. After winning the first, the Crimson Tide dropped the next two at home to meet at Toyota Field on a two-game skid. Nearly half of Alabama's games have seen double digit runs cross the plate. Sophomore phenom Justin Lebron is a significant name to watch in the matchup as he leads the team in slugging percentage (.798), RBIs (50), home runs (12) and total bases (79). His batting average is good for third (.343), runs scored best for second (31) and hits are good for second (34).
BAG CHASERS: The Lions strapped rockets to their cleats in the second game of the Eastern Kentucky series on Saturday. UNA stole six bags en route to their 5-1 win, while senior second baseman Jonathan Lane stole two by himself. North Alabama tripled their most recent team high which was two that was set in three separate contests.
SERIES VICTORIES: After their second ASUN victory over EKU, this marks the fifth year that the Lions have won two or more conference series. North Alabama won two series or more in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024. The 2023 season saw three ASUN conference series wins for the most in a Division I season. This is the third straight season under head coach Jad Prachniak the Lions have won two or more conference series.
THRILL MORRILL: Senior transfer right-handed pitcher Dylan Morrill has been a seamless addition to the bullpen. He has made eight appearances this season for the Lions pitching 25.0 innings with 32 strikeouts, which leads the team by 12. He has only seen 86 batters, and when hitting against him, batters average .174.
