NOTES

THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama competed against the No. 10 team in the nation in the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday, March 25. It took a Justin Lebron walk-off RBI for the Tide to win in the final inning, 4-3. The Lions had a home run courtesy of left fielder Nash Rippen that helped tie the game in the top of the sixth. The Lions out-hit the nationally ranked Tide six to five while the North Alabama pitchers held them to their lowest game batting average all season.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 34th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Lions are 17-16 all-time against Lipscomb with their most recent win coming last season at Mike D. Lane field 5-3. Before transitioning to Division I, the Lions were 11-1 in this matchup. During the 2021 season, the Lions amassed only seven wins, but five of those came against the Bisons out of the six they played.

SCOUTING THE BISONS: Lipscomb enters the weekend at 9-14 overall and with a 3-3 conference record. The Bisons opened the season with Kentucky, where they split the series 1-1 after one canceled due to weather. The Bisons also competed against No. 6 Florida State in Tallahassee where they dropped both before a cancellation of the last game. Lipscomb competes in the Gold Division, the same as North Alabama. They currently sit one spot below UNA in third. The Bisons have played Austin Peay and Bellarmine to begin conference play. Both series have had a double header on Friday night. Lipscomb lost the Austin Peay series 2-1 with one game by run rule and won the Bellarmine series 2-1 — the one loss saw a combined 36 runs between the teams.

DIVISION, DIVISION: The ASUN recently voted on moving to divisions before the beginning of the 2025 season for both baseball and softball. North Alabama is set to compete in the Gold Division. This division includes Austin Peay, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, EKU, Lipscomb, and UNA. The other division is the Graphite Division where FGCU, Jacksonville, North Florida, Queens, Stetson and West Georgia compete. Currently, the Lions sit in second with a 4-2 conference record, just behind Austin Peay at 5-1. The divisions are named after the colors of the conference.

BATTLE TESTED: The Lions are 7-15 this season heading into the weekend. However, the record can be misleading when it comes to the quality of the ball team. UNA has competed with six SEC schools this season so far with two being No. 1 at the time of competition. Four of the six games saw seven or less runs for the SEC giants. Outside of conference games this season, UNA opponents have a combined record of 148-75. Four of those teams have five or less losses on the season.

THE BIG DYL(AN): Senior transfer right-handed pitcher Dylan Morrill has been a seamless addition to the bullpen. He has made eight appearances this season for the Lions pitching 25.0 innings with 32 strikeouts, which leads the team by 12. He ranks first in the ASUN for hits allowed (15), second in opposing batting average (.174), second in runs allowed (11) and fifth in both strikeouts (32) and saves (3).

DO THE DELLY CELLY: Senior transfer catcher Matthew Delgado has been a tremendous help on offense this season as he is in the top-three of most major categories. He leads the team in batting average (.312) and total bases (32). He is second in slugging percentage (.416) and hits (24). He is third on the team in runs scored (8), RBIs (10), HRs (2) and walks (9).

ROAD WARRIORS: North Alabama is in the process of building Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, which is currently scheduled to be ready in April. The Lions will play on the road and at neutral site venues until then. For more information, click here.

UP NEXT: After the matchup with Lipscomb, the Lions head further north to play Murray State in Murray, Ky. on Tuesday, April 1 at 4 p.m.
