NOTES

THE RUNDOWN: North Alabama finished its third ASUN weekend series of the season. The Lions fell for the first time in a conference series in 2025, taking one of three against the Lipscomb Bisons starting on March 28 in Nashville. UNA won the first game as Brycen Parrish threw a complete game, two-hit shutout for the 1-0 victory on Friday night. The Lions lost 6-5 on Saturday and 5-4 in an extra frame on Sunday afternoon. Nash Rippen hit the first grand slam of the season for North Alabama in the top of the first. This series also marked the first three game weekend series that a home run was hit in each game.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs. That is, if the record book is open all the way back to 1957. In modern day, the Lions have played the Racers seven times making this the eighth since 2020. However, in 1957 North Alabama played Murray State twice in back-to-back games under head coach George Weeks where they won both. The two met in 1966 and 1995 for three games, the Racers won all three. Since 2020, the Lions have one victory, 6-4 in Florence, Ala. This will be the fourth consecutive year of a home and home between the two schools.

SCOUTING THE RACERS: Overall, Murray State is 15-8 for the season with a 2-4 Ohio Valley Conference record. They have big bats, scoring 15 or more runs in five contests. They took No. 17 Ole Miss to extra innings before falling 8-7. The Racers beat Kentucky 5-4 in Lexington. They started the season with seven straight wins with four 10+ run games. The Racers recently played against Illinois State over the past weekend and went 1-2, winning the first game 19-8.

HOME & AWAY: Originally, this midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 1 was slated to be a home game for the Lions. The two programs already had a home and home series set up for 2025, so as construction is ongoing, the two programs agreed to swap locations for the matchups. As the Lions now head to Murray, Ky., the Racers come to Florence, Ala. on April 22nd for the second game.

BATTLE TESTED: The Lions are 8-17 this season heading into the weekend. However, the record can be misleading when it comes to the quality of the ball team. UNA has competed with six SEC schools this season so far with two being No. 1 at the time of competition. Four of the six games saw seven or less runs for the SEC giants. Outside of conference games this season, UNA opponents have a combined record of 148-75. Four of those teams have five or less loss on the season.

ROAD WARRIORS: North Alabama is in the process of building Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium, which is currently scheduled to be ready in April. The Lions will play on the road and at neutral site venues until then. For more information, click here

UP NEXT: After the matchup with Murray State, the Lions stay in Kentucky as they get another ASUN conference weekend against the Bellarmine Knights in Louisville, Ky. starting on April 4 at 6 p.m.
