JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 6, 2025) – Following a second-place finish, University of North Alabama men's golf junior Xing Luo won the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week award announced on Thursday.
This award comes after Luo finished second in the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate in Daytona Beach, Fla. hosted by Stetson from March 3-4. He placed second in the tournament with a one-over-par 217 stroke score. He shot 70-76-71 throughout the three-round tournament.
The Lions struggled at points during this tournament, but Luo stayed steady. After the first day, North Alabama finished in 12th after the first two rounds. The junior tied for eighth after round one then trickled into a tie for sixth. Only one of two Lions in the top-60 of the field.
Heading into the final few holes, he was tied for third with a UCF golfer before officially breaking through to land in second place. He was two strokes away from a tie for the individual crown.
His play rewarded the Lions where they moved up past ASUN foes Austin Peay and Central Arkansas, finishing in seventh of the 15 team tournament.
"It was good to see a great bounce back from Xing after some struggles at the last two tournaments," said The Schmitz Family head coach Austin Phillips. "To have three top-two finishes in six tournaments is hard to do and he has a lot of season ahead of him. Excited to see what happens next for Xing."
There have been eight different Lions to win the ASUN Golfer of the Week award in the Division I era. This is the 13th ASUN Golfer of the Week award for the men and the third for Luo.
This is the first ASUN Golfer of the Week award for the Lions this spring. During the Fall, North Alabama set the record for most ASUN Golfer of the Week awards in a single semester with four. Luo won one, sophomore Andrew Ferworn won two and junior Sebastian Bengtsson won one.
There has never been more than one in a semester until Fall 2024. The Lions won three in the month of October alone.
Next up, Luo and the Lions travel to Thomasville, Ga. for the Seminole Intercollegiate at Glen Arvey Country Club on Monday, March 10 hosted by Florida State.
