NOTES

THE RUNDOWN: The University of North Alabama baseball team won its first midweek game at newly opened Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium against UT Martin on Tuesday, winning 3-1. Freshman lefty Reese Young went 6.0 innings and earned his second win of the season as he threw six scoreless innings for a quality start. The Lions hit .333 as a team with 10 hits today. This marks the third-best batting average for the Lions in a game this season. North Alabama's pitching crew did not allow any earned runs for the fourth time this season.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 37th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Lions are 18-18 all-time against Lipscomb with their most recent win coming on March 28 this season by a score of 1-0. The Lions traveled to Nashville, Tenn. earlier this season for a weekend series, walking away with one win. Every game in that series was decided by one run.

SCOUTING THE BISONS: The Bisons are 20-23 this season with a 13-8 ASUN record. Since the last meeting, Lipscomb has gone 11-9 during that stretch to take hold of second place in the ASUN Gold Division. The Bisons step into this weekend with three of the last four ASUN series being wins; twice against Eastern Kentucky and once against Central Arkansas. Four of their losses came in the midweek games with Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Tennessee Tech.

THE 1-0: Back on Friday, March 28, Brycen Parrish earned the start against the Bisons. The Lions won 1-0 as the graduate captain went the full nine innings and struck out five batters while only allowing two hits for the shutout victory. Parrish's shutout was the first nine inning shutout of UNA's Division I era. The last player to do so was Tyler Joyner against Christian Brothers on April 15, 2018.

THE CRASKANATOR: Redshirt Freshman Petey Craska has come on strong in reference to conference games. He leads the Lions in six different categories. Craska has 18 runs with 29 hits and eight doubles. His .397 average is coupled with a .526 slugging percentage. He also has been hit by a pitch six times during conference play. Per the ASUN website, for conference only stats, Craska ranks eighth in batting percentage and ninth in doubles with seven.

MOVING 'FOUR'WARD: Captain and second baseman Jonathan Lane is on watch for his 206th career hit. He currently has 45 on the season with 204 total during his four years, only two away from that number. The 206 career hits would pass the great former MLB standout Josh Willingham who currently sits in fourth with 205 hits in his career. After his 200th hit, he joined UNA Hall of Famers James Barksdale (261), Douglas Hargett (243) and Willingham (205), as well as 2018 graduate Kyle Hubbach (215).

CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN: The Lions won 10 conference games last season, the most since entering the Division I era and the first time reaching double digit wins in conference play during that time. North Alabama has now met that mark with their most recent conference win. The Lions won seven in 2019, no conference matchups in 2020, six in 2021, five in 2022 and finally eight in 2023. North Alabama has 15 conference games — including this weekend — left this season. If they Lions win one more, they achieve their best conference win total in Division I history.
